Latest Happenings....

February has been a busy month in many regards... the Audio Engineering Society- San Francisco chapter hosted their meeting at Cogswell on February 10th. Robert Rich spoke about mastering and the loudness wars, and its effects on current music. It sucked hearing 'Death Magnetic' for a few seconds, but it illustrated two points: 1) Don't over compress and 2) Don't listen to modern Metallica albums if you have any self respect.

Later that week I visited Robert at his home studio, and hung out with him for about an hour and a half. He explained details on his modular synth, as well as some work-flow issues he goes through when he gets a project. I can't wait to take his class next semester!

My current projects involve reigniting the Cogswell student AES chapter... but it looks like I will have to venture outside the campus in order to do so. This is where I really, really miss Foothill (that, and... my Royer R-121), students actually wanted to do things. More on that as it happens...

The Laser Harp? Le sigh. The school and its logistics have gotten in the way, so we may just purchase some SCA preamps, and build those for Cogswell Studio A... since we have such a large injection of cash from the Boeing project.

On the upside, I am definitely graduating in Spring of 2012... and I already have some ideas for my portfolio project. Go go audio restoration website!

I will be attending my first Game Developers Conference in SF on March 4. Looking forward to seeing what the rest of my school is so damn excited about...

I have also decided on my second tattoo, that will be on my right wrist:

The first Omega (the curly 'W' right after the capitalized 'F') is going to be a heart, integrating love from the frequency to the time domain. Yes, I am a nerd, and I an definitely ok with getting a tattoo of a math formula on my person.

More as it happens, midterms next week, then hopefully delving back in to some audio related projects.
